What Is Beaded Sashiko?

Beaded Sashiko is a new craft genre that uses beads to stitch traditional sashiko patterns.
The classic, understated look of traditional sashiko stitched with sashiko thread is transformed into a dazzling creation by using bugle beads to form the lines!
What Is Sashiko?
Sashiko is a traditional Japanese embroidery technique that has been passed down for generations.
It uses a needle and thread to stitch traditional Japanese patterns onto fabric.
Simple yet beautiful, sashiko creates elegant designs with carefully arranged stitches. This technique is said to have grown from the practical wisdom of everyday life.
The origins of sashiko are believed to date back around 500 years.
Although its exact birthplace is unknown, the sashiko traditions of Japan’s Tohoku region are especially well known today.
Because cold regions were not suitable for growing cotton, cotton products were considered very valuable.
It is said that techniques developed to reinforce clothing and provide warmth eventually evolved into sashiko and were passed down through the generations.
A New Craft Genre: Beads × Sashiko

Beaded Sashiko uses sparkling beads to create the stitched lines that are characteristic of sashiko.
Unlike the simple look of traditional sashiko, beads add elegance, sweetness, and a more decorative feel to the designs. The beads also create a sense of dimension that is difficult to achieve with sashiko thread alone!
What Can You Create with Beaded Sashiko!?

The possibilities are endless!
You can turn your work into everyday items such as coasters and sashiko pieces, and they look adorable too.
